Cabbage Balls


Cabbage balls is a great substitute for meat for Vegans. It is made with finely chopped/grated cabbage, ginger , garlic  & spiced up with pepper & cayenne pepper, 2 kinds of flours are used for binding & deep fried in Sunflower oil. 

Few ingredients are written in German equivalent names, i hope it helps for people to find them easily in supermarkets for  living in Germany .

Ingredients:                                     

 Cabbage - 300 gram

 Finely chopped fresh Ginger - 1 tsp

 Finely chopped fresh Garlic chopped - 1 tsp 

 Corn Flour(Mondamin Speißestärke) - 2 tbsp

 Allpurpose Flour(Mehly Typ 405) - 2 tbsp

 ChickPea Flour(Kirchererbsen Mehl) - 1.5 tbsp (Optional)

 Sunflower Oil 

 Spices:

  Pepper Powder - 1/2 tsp

  Paprika Powder - 1/2 tsp or Cayenne pepper -1/2 tsp

  Method of preparation:

 1. Finely Grate/chop Cabbage, wash them and drain out all the water in a strainer .

 2. Finely Chop Ginger & Garlic

 3. Take a bowl, add chopped cabbage, ginger, garlic, pepper, Cayenne pepper/Paprika,salt, Corn Flour & All-purpose Flour, Chickpea flour , mix well & kneed atleast for 5 mins.

4. Make small balls out of this & place them on a clean plate

5. Cover the plate with Aluminium Foil & let it rest is Refrigerator for 30 minutes

6. Heat around 300 ml oil in deep Fryer/deep Pan

7. Put this balls slowly and fry them until they are cooked nice & brown 

Note:

It can be served with tomato ketchup.

1 tablespoon=15 ml 

1 teaspoon=5 ml

Chickpea Flour is easily available in Turkish /Indian stores.


 

I always put hot deep fried balls immediately on the kitchen tissue paper for 3 to 4 minutes, so that the extra oil from balls is observed by the paper, and the balls taste healthy.
